H2H Week 14: Make the Right Moves

The obvious challenge in any salary cap game is locating bargain players who solidly contribute while at the same time giving the owner the opportunity to afford the big name no-brainer producers.

Head2Head.com doesn’t really assist patrons in that matter to the detriment of most apathetic owners. The site does publish each week which grouping of players would have netted the most points while staying under the $100M salary cap but it doesn’t provide any analysis when it comes to consistent point makers. That’s where I come in.

The formula used to calculate the efficiency rating is highly classified. What isn’t a secret is that it’s a perfect barometer for gauging the game's best values, thus allowing you to splurge on high dollar players.

We’re down to the final week before the bowl season and H2H playoffs begin. Some of you are battling for playoff spots while others of you like me are looking to end your season as the highest scoring team in your league. This week’s top ten value plays will help you do that (again, only eligible players are being considered here).

10) Jahvid Best, RB, California (9.7M, 52.12 efficiency rating)

The Bears’ opponent this week, the Washington Huskies, are allowing 223 rushing yards and 2.5 rushing touchdowns per game. This bodes well for Best who can rack up serious points against respectable defenses. Washington is as respectable as a five-dollar prostitute. There is no telling what kind of damage he will inflict on the Huskies, but he should definitely be in your lineup this week. Since Washington is about as horrid as their in-state rival Washington State, it should be known that in just over two quarters Best put up 39 on the Cougars early in the season.

9) Pat White, QB, West Virginia (15.0M, 54.38 efficiency rating)

White isn’t the most consistent option available but when he hits, hit comes up big. I think South Florida will have a difficult time containing White this week and if you’re still flexing a quarterback, White is a more than viable option. This will be his last home game before his skills are tested at the next level so expect a good showing for the NCAA’s all-time leading rusher amongst quarterbacks.

8) Tim Tebow, QB, Florida (17.00M, 54.90 efficiency rating)

In about three quarters of play Tebow burned Florida State for 39 points. He has been extremely consistent of late but will face his biggest test of the season in a stout Alabama defense. A dual threat, hopefully Tebow can get one or the other, or both going against the Tide. It should be noted that Percy Harvin is hobbled with an ankle injury so that may have some impact on Tebow’s scoring this week. Then again it may just mean he steals any of Harvin’s would be touchdowns.

7) Chase Daniel, QB, Missouri (18.8M, 60.90 efficiency rating)
Daniel was efficient with his legs and arm against the Jayhawks on Saturday compiling 39 points. This week’s showdown with the Sooners should be quite the shootout so a repeat performance is well within reach. Expect even bigger numbers if the Tigers are playing from behind which they should be most of the game. Chase Coffman is back as well so Daniel will have his full arsenal to try and spoil the Sooners’ title hopes.

6) Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma (4.7M, 64.55 efficiency rating)

Gresham was gold against the Cowboys and targeted frequently by Sam Bradford. This was his best performance on the season to date and that was good for 36 points. Considering his price tag, owners would be foolish to pass on Gresham this week against a porous Missouri defense. Gresham owns the middle of the field and will own the Tigers as well.

5) Rob Gronkowski, TE, Arizona (4.7M, 71.70 efficiency rating)

In his last three games, the sophomore tight end is averaging 6 catches, 92 yards, and a touchdown. That’s only 21 points but at 4.7M he boasts tremendous value. Owners who want to load up at the running back, quarterback, and flex position might consider going with a three tight end lineup to save cap space. You could do a lot worse.

4) LeSean McCoy, RB, Pittsburgh (11.2M, 72.69efficiency rating)

Had McCoy’s game against West Virginia on Friday counted it would have been good for 33 points. Only a sophomore, McCoy is already one of the five best running backs in the country. A receiving threat as well, he’ll face a formidable defense in UConn this week who have given up the second most rushing touchdowns in the conference. Look for McCoy to find the end zone at least twice and compile well over 100 yards of total offense.

3) Donald Brown, RB, Connecticut (10.0M, 73.51 efficiency rating)

McCoy’s counterpart on Saturday will look to continue his dominant play as well. Brown has shown that he can put up points against even the most touted defenses and he will do the same this week. What a treat it will be to watch two of H2H’s top three scoring running backs duke it out! Owners would be best served to have both in their lineup.

2) Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma (17.8M, 91.76 efficiency rating)

Now the front runner for the Heisman trophy, Bradford torched Oklahoma State for 45 points on Saturday. This week he’ll face an extremely vulnerable Missouri defense that gave up 36 and 39 point games to quarterbacks like Todd Reesing and Colt McCoy this season. Don’t read too much into his injured hand as that should only affect the center quarterback exchange. Look for Bradford to flirt with 50 points this week.

1) Chase Coffman, TE, Missouri (5.2M, 97.48 efficiency rating)

Against Kansas, it was very apparent that Coffman was playing injured. However, despite his bad case of turf toe, quarterback Chase Daniel targeted him often, especially in the red zone. The result: 23 points for H2H owners who took the gamble on him playing. Once again, that is tremendous value. This week he’ll face Oklahoma for a shot at BCS bowl game and he will show up big time.

Honorable Mention: DeMarco Murray, RB, Oklahoma; Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri; California D/ST; Derrick Washington, RB, Missouri; Marshawn Gilyard, WR, Cincinnati; Percy Harvin, WR, Florida; Dominick Goodman, WR, Cincinnati; Boston College D/ST; Manuel Johnson, WR, Oklahoma; Chris Brown, RB, Oklahoma.

As a Pokes fan, I would like to point out that a) Gresham got a lucky TD on a tip ball and b) I played him over Coffman. KID IS GOOD - best receiver on that team.

And Brown's old RB competition Andre Dixon just got suspended indefinitely, so onward UConn!

Agreed!

Is the 3 TE lineup at all tempting this week?
